From marketing at a business book publisher, to working in special education with assistive technology and augmentative communication, to developing website copy for a dot com boom startup, my path into the software industry took many twists and turns. Discovering the world of software was a revelation to me - I felt very at home in engineering and product teams. I held every role in R&D except developer and eventually moved into engineering management.
In the early 2000s, I was introduced to the now ubiquitous concepts of agile software development and eventually became an agile coach. That career was a welcome blending of my previous experiences; technology and teaching. I had the opportunity to lead a large coaching organization at a fast growing tech startup, and sitting on the executive team there helped me develop deep empathy for the challenges leaders face in rapidly scaling tech businesses.
I saw an opportunity to help these leaders and decided to take everything I had learned about teams, alignment, collaboration, and discipline from my agile experiences and translate that to the business as a whole. I've spent the last decade-plus advising and coaching executives and executive teams at fast growing tech companies on how to scale their teams, their strategies, and themselves. I was honored to join Insight Partners in March of 2021 to continue that work inside the portfolio.
My focus centers on scaling organizations and becoming excellent at leading through the fast cycles of change that high growth companies experience. The key to not only surviving, but thriving in these environments is to never stop learning, and that requires that we forgive ourselves for the things we didn't know yesterday while holding ourselves accountable to them tomorrow. Or as the incredibly wise Maya Angelou said, "I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better."
I am a Colorado native living in Denver after a brief stint in the Bay Area earlier in my career. Outside of work you will find me with my family, taking advantage of all that Colorado has to offer from camping to hiking to skiing, with regular adventures to other fabulous locales around the world.
