As a scientist and engineer by training, Matias joined Insight Partners’ investment team to identify and support the next generation of innovative startups in the life sciences. Matias joined the firm in 2022 as a Bio Fellow prior to joining as an Associate after completing his Ph.D. Prior to Insight, Matias worked in the biotechnology industry at Genentech, where he gained experience across various functions (manufacturing, formulations, and strategic planning).

Matias earned his doctorate in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania as an HHMI-NIBIB Interfaces Scholar in the labs of Saar Gill M.D. Ph.D. & Frederick Bennett M.D., where he worked on cell therapy approaches to treat neurodegenerative diseases. Matias also holds an MS in Management Science & Engineering from Stanford University, and a BS in chemical-biological engineering from MIT.

Matias is originally from Bogota, Colombia but grew up in Venezuela, Nigeria and Costa Rica before coming to the United States. In his spare time Matias enjoys traveling, gaming and learning new languages.
